that their Emergency Contacts, Doctors, Critical Warnings,
Advance Directives**, Afterlife Plans, etc., are known in case they
are unable to communicate their wishes with medical staff.
*Speakers from the Vermont Ethics Network attend gatherings to
answer questions and help individuals complete the process
of completing their Advance Directives so that their wishes can
be carried out.
**Hospitals in Vermont are required to check the Vermont Advance
Directive Registry (VADR) for a copy of your Advance Directive if
you arrive at the hospital and cannot speak for yourself. Don't delay.
Failure to plan puts you at risk of having treatments that you might
not agree with. Also, not planning could create more stress for family
and friends who may disagree about what they think you would
want.
